Summer is here! And that typically means pool days, beach trips, vacations, and even water parks! There are so many reasons you’ll end up in a swimsuit this summer so having a few suits you like is important. I live in the desert so there is always a good excuse to hang out by the pool with my family or friends. Because of this, I always make sure I have a few trusted swimsuits that are ready to go. Because I am a mom, I have a few swimsuits that I wear on family outings. These mom swimsuits are typically more modest so that I can do all of my motherly duties without worrying about a wardrobe malfunction. It’s basically the same idea behind my everyday style. I need to be able to move freely, chase a kid, and change a baby, while still being cute!
Picking out the right swimsuit as a mom can be difficult for a few reasons. As I mentioned, we need to be able to move around so something ultra revealing (for a family event) just isn’t practical. But also, us moms typically have ‘problem’ areas that we want to make sure are either covered or supported. A lot of us have stretch marks, loose skin, less than perky breasts and extra weight. This makes finding a cute and flattering swimsuit a bit more difficult but it’s not impossible! I would say, the secret to finding the best mom swimsuit is equal parts confidence and patience.
In this post, I’ll be showing you my favorite mommy swimsuits and giving you tips on how to shop for your own.
One-piece Mom Swimsuits
I think it’s fair to say that most people think of a one-piece swimsuit when they think of a mom at the beach or poolside. When I image those swimsuits, I always see black, paisley, and just frumpy awfulness. One-piece suits don’t have to be this way!
MonoKini with a cut out
A monokini is a great option for moms. Instead of a solid piece, you have either two pieces attached, top and bottom, or one-piece with cut-outs. There are so many different iterations of this that it is easy to get one where the cutouts are placed exactly where you want them to be. This suit from SHEIN covers up my lower tummy but also has a low, flirty neckline and a peekaboo cutout in the back. I get most of my swimwear from SHEIN, they have so many affordable options that I really haven’t seen a suitable competitor for the price point. If you’ve never shopped at SHEIN check out my How-To guide so that you have the best experience possible.

One of my favorites things about both of these swimsuits is the way color is used. A lot of us tend to stick to neutrals or black in our swimwear to avoid attention. Honestly, people are going to look at you regardless of what color you have on, so you might as well give them something to look at!
Low neck line monokini
I have to be honest and say, this is my new favorite swimsuit. I didn’t expect to like it so much because of the low neckline. Since breastfeeding, I’m very critical of my boobs and the changes they have gone through. They are a lot flatter and smaller than they were pre-baby. Bu this swimsuit compliments them well. The high-cut bottoms and the tie-around straps make it really flattering for your waist. I don’t have a distinct hourglass figure or a flat stomach most days. This suit accentuates my body and makes my midsection look slim and trim. I like that the top is adjustable, so you can tie this to your own comfort level, and probably in a multitude of designs to give the swimsuit your own flair. I loved this suit so much I ordered it in two colors, I might even go back for more!

Mom Friendly Bikini Swimsuits
Get a Matching Cover Up
Remember the days when a swimsuit cover-up was a terry cloth dress with a zipper down the middle? Or worse, a big flowy tunic? Depending on the tunic you might still be able to pull that off, but still. A lot of moms choose to wear cover-ups while wearing a swimsuit for modesty and comfort. Luckily for us, swimsuit cover-ups have come a long way! I really love the skirts that tie at the waist. As someone who likes to cover her tummy, I can easily do this without feeling frumpy. The cover-up on this suit is an upgrade from the long scarves we tied around our waists in the 2000’s. This one is pretty much the same material but has tie straps that allow you to have some security, and show a little leg. You can also wear a Kimono as a cover-up, and you can find these anywhere.
Other than the cover-up, I love this bikini because the high-waisted bottoms are super flattering and the tube-like top has straps that keep it where it needs to be. (Click here) to purchase this set!
High wasted with a twist
Don’t be afraid to be a little trendy. Last year, tie-dye was huge and it still is. When shopping this trend, I tend to stick to light colored tie-dye or prints that look more like water color. In my opinion, these prints will still be cute and fashionable after the tie-dye resurgence has died down. This suit also has high waisted bottoms, which in my opinion is a must for those of us who are self conscious about our kangaroo pouch. This is a great way to still pull off a two piece swim suit while feeling comfortable and confident.
A great aspect of this swimsuit is the top. It is more like a crop top than a bikini top in my opinion since it covers more skin and has adjustable tie straps in the front. Unfortunately, this suit is no longer available so I can’t give you a link, but I’m sure there are tons of similar suits around.
I hope these suits gave you some ideas for which swimwear to shop for this season! Check out my instagram to see these swimsuits in action. Always remember, you are beautiful!
