Last month I posted about my simple, everyday makeup routine for beginners. In that post, I briefly touched on my skincare routine but since then I have added more products and refined my schedule. In the weeks that I’ve been following this routine, I have seen a gradual change in my appearance. My skin tone has evened out, I have fewer breakouts and my skin has been very moisturized. I’m doing everything I can to look 25 forever! I think consistency is a very important aspect of any skincare routine as well as carefully picking which products you use. I have been trying to use as many natural, moisturixing products with great ingreidents as possible. A few of the products I mention even have essential oils in them!
I’ve never paid this much attention to my skin, but it is fun putting on all my motions and potions.
Morning Skincare routine
While in the shower I wash my face with Aveeno Clear Complexion foam cleanser. I like to let it sit on my face for a minute or two before I do a gentle scrub and rinse. After the shower, wipe down my face and neck with the Pixi Glow Tonic toner. I bought a sample size of this from Target and I use it with clean cotton pads. Then I spray my face and neck with my Mario Badescu rosewater facial spray. After those products dry down I massage my face and neck with my Olay complete daily moisturizer with SPF. I do all of these things to make sure my skin is clean and moisturized before I put on any makeup.
Both the toner and facial spray I use are infused with Rose and Rosehip oil. Rose oil is great for combating acne, moisturizing and calming the face. Even though my face is extremerly soft and moisturized after this routine I still put on a primer before my foundation. I am oily so generally I add a mattifying powder before setting my makeup, to balance things out.
Nightly Skincare routine
Each night I remove my makeup with face wipes and unrefined coconut oil. I’m currently using the Neutrogena makeup remover wipes but I’ve used different brands in the past that work just as good, in my opinion. After I get off as much makeup as possible with 1-2 wipes and the oil, I soak a cotton pad in micellar water and wipe down my face and neck. Don’t forget the neck!! I’ve only been using refined coconut oil and micellar water for about two weeks now and in all honesty, I think I’ve only been using the micellar water correctly for a week. Both have amazing benefits for your skin and both are very affordable.
I impulse bought the micellar water at Target before I even knew what it was but I am really glad I did. In a nutshell, micellar water is water that is infused with tiny oil molecules that lift the dirt and grime from your face but doesn’t dry out our skin like some tap water and cleansers can. You can use this any time of day but I find that I like using it at night best. I keep it in my bedroom vanity, which makes it easy for me to clean my face without having to go to the bathroom. Basically, it makes it easier for me to keep up this habit because I’m lazy (don’t judge me!). After using it my face feels clean and not dry. It does wonders for my oily skin. I don’t really like putting on moisturizer at night because I feel like it clogs my pores and makes me really oily by morning, yet skipping it makes me feel sandpaper dry. I really prefer how my skin feels after using the micellar water as opposed to plain water, cleaner and moisturizer.
To finish off, I mist my face and neck with the Mario Badescu facial spray with chamomile and lavender. Both lavender and chamomile are natural sleep aids that also have great calming benefits for the skin.
Weekend Skincare routine
My weekend routine includes both my daily and nightly routine but I throw in a few extra things to round out my skin care routine. I exfoliate once a week, generally before I leave the house Saturday morning, to remove dead skin and promote the growth of new healthy skin. I like to use the Ma’U silks Silky Soft facial scrub. I like this scrub because it gets the job done but my skin still feels moisturized and softer after using it. I also like to use sheet masks over the weekend. At the moment I don’t have a specific type or brand that I favor over the other. I have gotten them from Ulta, Target and Sephora.
What are your skincare favorites? This is what I am doing now but I am always open to trying new things. I actually want to try Hemp oil in the near future. Let me know what you’re using in the comments below or on my Facebook page.
