I fell in love with lip scrubs when I tried Lush’s Mint Julips sugar scrub this summer. These are a great way to exfoliate your lips and not to mention they make your lips very tasty to kiss. I like to use a sugar lip scrub as a part of my daily skin care routine because it is so important to take care of your entire face! I think we tend to neglect our lips while we are busy applying serums and moisturizers to the rest of our face!
I wanted to try a new flavor so instead of buying a new scrub from Lush for $10.95 I decided to try to make one of my own lemon lip scrub. The Original recipe for this on Pinterest actually worked out really great. I didn’t have to make any changes! What I love most about this project is that the final result is full of cheap and wonderful natural products! Any time I get to use essential oils on my skin I am over the moon because they have so many skin care benefits!
Minty Lemon Lip Srub Ingredients
6 Tbsp of Sugar
4 tbsp of sweet almond oil
10 drops Lemon essential oil
5 peppermint essential oil
2 drops yellow food dye
1-4oz container with a lid
This recipe produced enough lemon lip scrub to fill up four 1oz jars. I chose to use the jars because I like having my scrub in a small enough container to fit on my vanity and I also chose to give away the extra that I made. How to Use
The instructions are pretty simple. You will want to combine all ingredients in a bowl, stir until combined and then scoop into the container of your choice. To actually use the scrub you rub a small amount on your lips in a circular motion. Let the scrub sit on your lips for a few minutes then wipe or lick off the excess. Follow up with your favorite lip balm or moisturizer and you should be left with soft, moisturized lips!
I really love the clean smell of lemon mixed with the fresh peppermint scent. Both of these oils are great for nourishing your skin and even improving skin tone so it makes sense that they would be used in beauty products. In comparison to the Lush brand, this DIY lip scrub is a bit more moisturizing. It tends to separate a bit so I mix the sugar and oil before I use it. My scrub also does not have much of a taste because I didn’t add any artificial flavoring.
This was a fun and easy DIY to try. Give it a shot as a natural, inexpensive alternative to buying it from a store. These are great to have at home but also can be given away as gifts.

I love lip scrubs, I have never made my own but this looks fairly simple and I have most of these ingredients on hand. I think the only thing I would omit would be the colouring as we have dye allergies in this house. I think I'm going to have a girls night and make this.
