Hot Mom Bob: Winter protective styling with OMG Queen

Although I am no stranger to wearing wigs, I have never ordered a human hair wig online until now. I do love the versatility of a cheap synthetic wig but they tend to wear out quickly. Usually, I wear them for two weeks before they start to matt up or look crazy. Now that it is winter and protective styling season is upon us natural girls, I decided to go ahead and make an investment.

I discovered the hair company, OMG Queen, on YouTube (where else) and was pleased to see many positive reviews from the guru’s I trust, like Chev B and the HeartsandCake90. I was also very pleased when I saw the price point. Wig companies like Wow African, RPG Show, and April Lace Wigs are very popular on YoutTube but their wigs are also pretty expensive. These wigs are an investment but at the time I was only able to make a small commitment. This is mainly why I went with OMG Queen. 

Here is my review of this wig after washing it and wearing it for 2 weeks.

The Wig

For my first wig, I went with something simple, work and mom-

friendly. I chose a sleek, black, straight, Brazilian, bob wig (style BMW08). It is shown as a middle part, and this is pretty much your only option if you order the CapD, like I did. On this cap, the middle is where parting is the deepest (about 3 inches) and the back is a stretchy material. In my excitement of ordering, I didn’t think that this would be a problem, my fault not theirs. When I got it  I realized that a middle part at this length is not my look. So, I have been shifting the wig to the side slightly and curling the hair to fix this.

I opted to order the average size cap and not customize the size since this would have added an additional 30+ days to my order processing. I consider myself to have a big head but the average size cap fits me just fine. It’s actually very comfortable. I don’t feel the tightness I usually do with synthetic wigs.

I ordered the 150% density which is not super thick, in my opinion. It was borderline thin to me until I washed and conditioned it. They offer 130% & 180%, but 150% is recommended. I would not suggest not skimping in this area.

The hairline did need some customization and I did bleach the knots to make the wig look more natural. To apply the wig I have been just shoving the combs into my wig cap, being careful not to put tension on my roots. I bought a small tube of Got 2 B Glued gel, the wig bond of choice for most YouTubers, but I found it to be messy and not practical for daily use. I also don’t know how to use it all that well, just being honest, so I wasn’t apt to dealing with the white residue and safely removing the wig without removing my edges.

Take Away

Honestly, I’ve been living my very best life in this wig. It looks exactly like the photo on the website and is everything it promised to be. On top of that, the shipping was fast and customer service answered all questions I had about the wig before I bought it. The only gripe I have is that the hair doesn’t hold a curl well. I have to go over the curls daily and they usually loosen quickly but setting the curls while the hair is wet might have a different effect. 
I am really happy with the length. It is short but I find this length to be easy to keep up with while dealing with a toddler and moving around in my daily life. The life expectancy for this wig is 4-8 months, just enough to last me through the winter. I say this is a $108 well spent.
