Everyday Makeup For Beginners

February 1, 2018

In this post, I give a complete break down of my every day, quick & fabulous makeup routine!

This is great for beginners or those of us who want to do a little something before you run out the door! This is usually how I do my makeup for work & casual outings.

Be sure to read until the end for details on the #Lit4Likes Giveaway

Skincare and Prep

The key to great makeup application starts with your skincare routine. Your skin should always be as clean and moisturized as possible before you start applying your makeup, especially when you are planning to apply a full face. Makeup can hide some imperfections but dry, pimple-ridden skin will take away from your flawless application.

Ma’U Silks by Nawanna Durham is an all-natural line of face and body care. These products are chemical free and can be made without fragrance for use on the most sensitive skin. Nawanna

created these products to use on her grandchildren who, like many young children, suffered from eczema. This makes them great for use on sensitive areas like your face.

I start off by wetting my face with water and applying the Ma’U Silks Silky Soft Facial Scrub. After I rinse the scrub away I wash my skin with the Soft Body Bar. To moisturize I like to use my Olay moisturizer with SPF and I add the Ma’U Lip conditioner to moisturize my lips while I’m putting on my makeup. Now my face is ready for makeup!

Everyday Makeup application

Start by using a concealer that matches your skin tone to spot conceal any dark marks. I like to use the L.A pro conceal in the color Toffee. You can buy these online, at Walmart or at your local beauty supply store.
Add just enough to cover those spots and blend it out with your fingers or a damp makeup sponge. Sometimes I even add a bit of concealer around my nose. My nose has a strong red undertone, so I like to use concealer to tone that down. Next, I like to add a light BB cream or tinted moisturizer all over my face. I am currently using Bare Minerals. It’s sheer to light coverage that, in combination with spot concealing, softens the appearance of skin imperfections and evens your skin tone.

On days where my skin feels a bit oily I set the BB cream with translucent powder but this step is optional. Next, I like to fill in my brows with a pencil or powder. I only do this because my eyebrows are pretty thin and I feel like I look more awake and groomed when they are defined. You can skip this step altogether if you like your brows the way they are. I simply add powder or pencil strokes between the existing hairs to make them look filler. I don’t recreate the shape.

At this point, your skin should be relatively even and glowy. Now it’s time to add some light color and shimmer. I like to use a brownish copper, gold color on my eyelid on natural beauty days. Fenty Beauty’s highlight matchstick in the color Rum is perfect for this. I put this on my eyelids as well as my cheeks as a highlight. Add a bit of blush to give your face a little color and blend it in well. I finish off the look with my favorite mascara and if I still look droopy, I add some eyeliner to my bottom waterline. Setting spray is optional. Don’t forget to add lipstick or gloss!

This is a simple routine and these items are a great start for those who are just starting out and want to build up their collection. These items can easily fit into a makeup bag and be taken with you on the go in case touch-ups are needed.

K.Temple Designs has some amazing, handmade makeup bags. The one I have here is embroidered with silver roses. The size is great for carrying everything you need and they are cute enough to be carried as clutches. I usually carry my lip conditioner, liner and whatever lip color I’m wearing, along with setting powder to control oil. If I’m going out after work I like to bring a small palette with darker colors to change up my eye look but this is something that comes with time and comfort level.
