Educational
The dollar store offers great educational tools. My store has a lot of posters and items that could be used in most kindergarten classrooms. My 2 year old is not quite ready for most of these things but there are still a lot of items for 2-4 year olds. The flash cards were one of the things I set out to get. They have a wide variety, mostly for childrend in Kindergarted through 2nd grade. I was ableto find a pack of disney princess counting flashcards. There were also similar sesame street flash cards for toddlers. The age printed on the flash cards is 3 but I don’t think it’s too early to start learning.
I also picked up two cardboard books. ABC’s & Shapes cardboard books. The Shapes book is actually Sesame Street so I know she’ll be excited to see this. These books only have a few pages but they are sturdy enough to hold up for a while under the care of a toddler.
Play Time
I wanted to get items that were both age appropriate and came with minimal mess. We won’t be dying Easter eggs this year but we will be having a ton of fun! My kid LOVES bubbles, so much so that I literally have to hide them until I’m ready to deal with them. But this battery powered bubble gun should keep us both enteretained and happy. I get to watch her scream and play in a steady stream of bubbles without blowing myself light headed to create them.
I got a can of play-doh, they actually had a pretty good variety of colors at my Dollar Tree. I actually havent had play-doh in some time so I’m not sure but I think the mess involved is kept at a minimum.
Finally I got a pair of sunglasses. She loves playing the glasses but is often rough or refuses to wear them at times. These were only a dollar so if they break or rarely get used, there is no love lost.
Snack Time
The only thing I got from Dollar Tree in this category is a small bag of Twizlers. Generally we don’t allow her to have candy and she doesn’t care for pastries but she does love Twizzlers. I plan to let her have a few and give the rest of the bag to her dad. My mom got a really cute princess toddler plate and utensil set from Aldi so I added this along with a few plastic eggs filled with her favorite snacks.
My daughter’s basket was really simple but this doesn’t mean that this is all Dollar Tree has to offer. If my daughter was a little bit older her basket would’ve been stuffed with all of the easter essentials. Dollar Tree had chocolate bunnies and eggs, tons of coloring books, plasic eggs and lots of Easter themed candies for little kids. Not to mention the toy aisle that is always there.
Make sure you check out Dollar Tree when making your baskets. It’s a great way to save money and create a basket for your child full of useful things that they will love.
