I’m pretty frugal but I like spending money. I know, I know. I never pay full price for anything if I can help it, and that includes my favorite candles. I really like buying bath & body works candles. I love the overall design of the candles, the size of the 3 wicks and the variety of scents for each season.
The only thing I balk at is the price, which is $22.50 regular price. typically I only purchase them on candle day: that one, very special, day a year when all of the 3 wick candles are around $9 each.
Even though I am getting such a great deal on them, when I burn them out and leave that half an inch worth of wax at the bottom, I feel like I’m being cheated.
Well, not anymore!
Because of TikTok I have discovered a way to use every last drop of candle wax from my Bath & Body Works candles! So, I’m going to show you how to create wax melts and save your glass jar for future use! The frugal mama in me is SINGING right now!
A pack of scented wax melts typically cost around $2.99-$5 retail and a small glass jar can be purchased from the dollar store. So we aren’t saving a ton of money doing this, but this does help you get the most of your money and is a perfect way to reuse and repurpose things you already own!
Supplies Needed
1 used and abused candle in a glass jar
1.5 cups of water
Microwave
How to Remove Wax from a Candle Jar
Instructions
1. Start by pouring about 1.5 cups of water into your completely solid candle.2. Now place said candle into the microwave and heat for about 5 minutes. You want the wax to be completely melted. That’s when you know you’ve heated it long enough.
3. The glass container will be hot so, using oven mitts or hand towels, remove the candle from the microwave and place into the fridge. You’ll need to leave it in there until the wax is completely hardened again.
4. Check on your candle and remove if all of the wax has completely hardened on the surface of the water. Now you can simply push down on one side and the circular disc of wax should pop up easily.
5. Pour out the water and with your fingers or a fork remove the candle wicks from the bottom of the jar. They are secured by a weak adhesive so this should be pretty easy.
6. Clean out the jar and remove the label. If the jar is still slightly warm, the label should come off without leaving a residue. 7. You can use a knife or your hands to break up the wax disc into smaller pieces so that they can be used in a wax warmer. I got a small one from Dollar Tree but you can buy these everywhere.
Now you’re done! You have a cute glass jar with a lid to use however you choose, as well as the ability to continue burning your favorite candle. If you want to go a step further, you can use a hot glue gun to adhere a knob to the jar lid.
I’m actually pretty upset that I never tried this before because I have for sure thrown out perfectly good wax.
This is a fun idea!! I love how you were able to reuse the jar. I hate throwing stuff like that away.
