With Christmas just Six days away (holy crap!), the 2017 holiday season is rounding to a close. I know we are all scrambling around to get last minute gifts for our little ones, parents and significant others but my question to you is, did you make a list for yourself? Ever since becoming a mother it has become harder and harder to do or buy anything for my self that is completely outside of my child. Last year I literally had no answer for those who asked: “what do you want for your birthday/ Christmas/ anniversary present?”
In the grand scheme of things, no this isn’t a major issue. Obviously, as wives and mothers, we are just happy to have healthy children, the ability to provide for them and see them daily. Obviously! But it is also important to practice self-care and to think of yourself. That is why I was determined to make a list of things I wanted or would like before the craziness of the holiday season kicked off to ensure that I wasn’t lost in the shuffle of things.
Here are some ideas for your mom Christmas list.
1. Makeup- Seriously, when was the last time you were able to luxuriate in Sephora? Go from station to station, swatching new lip colors and highlights. Sitting down and letting the MUAs try out a new foundation formula on you. Months? Years? This is why you should have someone pick up a few of the things you want to try but just can’t seem to get to the store to buy yourself. Or even better, have them replace some of your old favorites so you can start 2018 with new and fresh makeup.
2. Self-care – If you are a She’s Wright regular you know that I am currently obsessed with essential oils. My diffuser is so amazing, I highly recommend getting one and essential oils. These are great for relaxation, aromatherapy and I even use mine to help my little one get over chest congestion when she’s sick.
Other self-care items that make great gifts are bath bombs. I just think they’re fun and now that you have them you have a reason to lock yourself in the bathroom and take a long bath instead of the mom speed showers you’re used to.
Another great gift to ask for is a gift card to European Wax or another wax studio. For the past 6 months I have been scheduling regular waxes and although it is expensive I really value this service. It forces me to make the time I need to focus on my own personal grooming, it takes me out of mom mode and puts me back in woman mode for a change and it’s just nice to not have to do it yourself!
Oh and also, your man will love it. Nice bonus!
3. A new pair of jeans
Jeans may not seem like a big deal but I, along with plenty of moms, was in a major need of a great pair of jeans post pregnancy. And I don’t mean a cheap pair of forever 21 ‘jeggings’, I mean a nice, $50 and up, pair of jeans. I remember trying on a new pair of Levis months after having my baby and feeling like someone had turned the lights on in the room! The pair of jeans I had been wearing were worn out, tired and no longer suited my new body. So ask for a gift card to the Levi store or go pick out a really nice pair of jeans and write that down on your Christmas list! You won’t be sorry.
These are my top gift ideas that anyone would love and find useful but you should sit and think about what gifts you would love for you!
