This past weekend I celebrate my birthday in style! I haven’t had a night out on the town like this since I was in college so I decided to really go all out with my outfit and I had a ball! I’m going to give you a quick rundown of my outfit, most of which I picked up from Akira. This store might be expensive for some so I’m going to try to present cheaper alternatives.
I wish I could take credit for putting this all together but I can’t. I literally walked into the Akira store in downtown Chicago and let the shop girls dress me. They put together several outfits, along with shows and bags but ultimately this was the winner. I had a really good shopping experience. Their customer service is always great and their shop girls and guys usually have great taste and a good knowledge of the store’s stock.
The only problem I had with the outfit is that the back strap on the shirt broke after about 3 hours of wear. Good for me, I was wearing a little bit of fashion tape and I was sitting down while it happened so no nip slips happened. I was able to return it to the store and get store credit in the full amount of the item. This store only offers store credit, no full refunds so beware.
Top
I wore the ‘Am what I Am’ top in gold. I have always wanted to wear a shirt like this and I would be lying if I said I didn’t think about Jackie Aina when I picked it up. It shows a lot of skin but my chest is pretty modest so not much clevage was shown. Just a lot of back back and shoulders! I felt secure in it, even without the fashion tape. Just be sure to have a plan B in case it breaks on you like mine did. Its disappointing that it did break since the shirt was not cheap! It was $44.90.
It comes in 3 colors. One size fits most.

Bottom
Also from Akira, I wore the ‘Ripped Knee Denim’ pants. The name is very deceaving as these are most certainly leggings, not jeans. With that being said I was really please with how they fit. They have a nice stretch and were really comfortable. Because they are high waist I was able to have a biut more covered that if I would’ve worn a low rise jean. The V cut of the shirt and the high waist of the pants made my waist look tiny and succesffuly covered my tummy and stretch marks.
These come in one other color, Olive.

Shoes
These babies were a show stopper! They are the ‘Glammed up Jeweled Strap Heels’ and they really are like sex on your feet. I didn’t do a super close up of them becasue (full disclosure) I didn’t have a fresh pedicure but they still looked BOMB.

Hair
This wig is not new at all. I’ve worn the 3A Naya wig quite a few times. Big hair felt like the right move to rally set this outfit off. I got so many compliements on it. People couldn’t believe I was wearing a wig. Click here to get more details and watch my YouTube review on it.
I got my entire outfit from Akira and I spent a pretty penny seeing as everything individually was over $40. This is mainly because I waited until the last minute and didn’t have time to shop around or buy anything online. I know for sure you can find jeans/leggins like these for cheaper on sites like Fashion Nova or Charlotte Russe.
I think I paid a good price for the shoes being that this style is popular and trendy. It’ll be hard to find a reliable pair for under $50.
I was really disappointed in the shirt seeing as it broke after only being worn for 3 hours. I would suggest checking out a similar shirt in the Cari Bybel x Misguided collection. It gives the same look but the need for a back strap is eliminated. The only isue is that it only comes in 1 color. An even better alternative can be found at Forever 21 for only $32
Dazzling December Look Perfect for New Years
Overall, I was pleased with how the outfit turned out. If I had unlimited funds I would have added a sparkly gold clutch and a black faux fur. To up the sex appeal you could even buy the dress version of the shirt and really turn heads!
