Even though I spend most of my time in pajamas or stretchy pants, I am still a lover of clothes and shopping. Since I’m trying to work on my wardrobe and independence outside of being a mom I’ve decided to spend more time playing with looks. Recently, while scrolling on Pinterest for inspiration, I noticed a trend that has been going on for a while. I think fashion is so interesting in this current moment. At one point it was all about the ultra fitted bodycon, then we brought back oversized outfits. Now we are seeing a resurgence in 90s inspired fashion and I’m so here for it. I finally get to wear the outfits I saw all of my favorite style icons wearing on tv! One of the clothing items that was a huge deal back in the day is the Slipdress. Think about SJP’s Carrie Bradshaw in ‘the naked dress’ or Michelle Pfeiffer in that low plunging teal-blue dress in scarface in case you need a reference. So buying this slip dress from Target was a no brainer.
Here are 5 easy ways to style this versatile piece.
The Simple Girl

Ideal for a date night. Here, I paired the slip dress with clear heels, a blue pashmina, and a handbag. Simple jewelry with the bold contrast of the blue accessories really plays up the beauty of this outfit while keeping it cute and simple. This bag is from Charming Charlie, circa 2016. It’s not available now but you might like this one instead. Check out my LiketoKnow. It for more options.
The weekend

Nothing says weekend to me more than converse and a denim jacket. Lucky for me, those two items look amazing with anything, especially this slip dress. This is for sure a look I will be rocking. It’s flirty, comfortable and casual. This denim jacket is from Old Navy and it always looks good with all white converse and a dress. The bag is another old favorite from Charming Charlie but you might like this alternative as well
‘90s Retro Look

A slip dress styled with a white crop top, strapy sandals, and brown mini bag
When I see this outfit I instantly think of angsty ‘90s teens and I’m here for it. All of the cool girls wore their dark slip dresses on top of a scoop neck T-shirt to create a look bordering odd yet edgy and cute. I did that here by layering this white crop top underneath the dress. Instead of going with chunky doc martens combat boots and dark lipstick, I decided to rock some strappy sandals and a brown mini bag. This still recreated the fun, edgy look but with a soft, summer vibe.
The Fashionista

This is a Pinterest outfit in its purest form. I borrowed hubby’s denim shirt to create this exaggerated, slouched shirt look. Will I wear this in real life? Probably not. It’s a bit extra for my taste but I love how fashionable and cool it looks. The brown waist belt creates a really cute silhouette and the clear heels make it brunch ready.
The Flirt

A slip dress styled with a band T-shirt, wedges, and brown mini bag
This is probably my favorite ensemble. When I see this I instantly think of a ‘90s rom-com actress going on a date to a rock concert or dinner with friends in some movie. Wearing the band Tee on top does cover up the skin the dress shows but having it tied at the waist adds back any heat lost by drawing attention to your waist, creating an hourglass figure. This Queen shirt is from Target. It’s currently unavailable but here is a cute alternative. The wedges I’m wearing are from Call It Spring. You might also like these cuties, they are a lot cheaper.
If you weren’t on board, I know you are by now. This simple dress from Target is so versatile and on trend. You definitely need it in your closet. It was on sale at the time I bought it but don’t worry. I found you a few more options just in case the Target dress sells out. These dresses from Nordstrom, Boohoo and SHEIN are all similar and affordable alternatives. Which outfit is most like your style? Which one would you try! Let me hear what you think.
