TV & Movie Podcasts:
1. Shat On TV: Game of Thrones, American Gods & Westworld
Shat On TV has 3 television show correspondent piece podcasts that I listen to during each show’s season. I discovered them while watching Westworld. That show is so complex and full of symbolism that I honestly needed help keeping track of everything that was going on! This show offers great analysis and commentary on each episode by film critic Rober Roeper and two other co-hosts, Dig D and Gene.
2. Oysters Clams & Cockles: Game of Thrones correspondent
This is another G.o.T. podcast that I listen to, it was recommended to me by a friend. They go into detail about each episode and are now currently doing the Night’s Rewatch. They started from the beginning of the series and are analyzing each episode in order to gear up for the final season in 2019. That’s dedication!

3. Insecuritea: Insecure aftershow
If you watch HBO’s hit show Insecure you should be listening to Insecuritea. It is HBO’s official companion piece for the show hosted by Crissle and HeyFranHey. Every week they summarize the show and add in their hilarious and poignant commentary on life and relationships.

4. The Weekly Planet:
Comicbooks and Comicbook Movie news & commentary
I fell in love with the Mr. Sunday Movies YouTube page and to my delight, he also has a podcast! Mr. Sunday along with co-host, Nick Mason, discuss movies, comic book news (tv shows, comics, and movies) and some pop culture. It’s a really great tool for non-comic book readers to learn how the text plays with live action interpretations and to hear their critiques.

5. SinCast:
Film commentary & review
This podcast, created by the guys behind the CinemaSins YouTube page (which is amazing), is another podcast I discovered from being a fan of their YouTube work. On the show, they critique film by release year, genre or whichever category they decide on for the week. They also do shows, which they call ‘minipods‘, where they dedicate a shorter episode to reviewing a new movie, currently in theaters. I feel like it has matured my criticism of movies and I love hearing them discuss the craft of filmmaking.

6. Comedy Trap House:
Dormtainment Podcast
If you love the Dormtainment youtube videos this is a way to get more of the guys. They are now branching out into acting and other business ventures so their youtube page is not always as poppin’. So if you miss them you will get your fill of their personalities and a fair share of laughs while listening to their weekly podcast. They discuss pop culture and give a distinctly male perspective on daily life. It’s very entertaining!

7. The Friend Zone:
Mental Health & Wellness
This is one of my favorite podcasts. They light up my Wednesdays! The Friendzone dives into mental health topics, wellness, holistic approaches to healing and a little bit of pop news. Fran, Dustin and Assante laugh and ke-ke for an hour each week and I always feel like I am catching up with friends when I listen.

8. The Read
Black excellence, Pop culture news and listener letters
The Read was my introduction to podcasts and they remain my favorite of all time. For me, it started by watching Kid Fury’s hilarious YouTube videos and I am so thankful he decided to move on to this platform. He and co-host Crissle provide hilariously black commentary on pop culture, politics and provide relationship advice to the messy readers who write in. This is a must listen! From this show, the world has been introduced to their friends Assante, Dustin Ross, and Hey Fran Hey, as well as Jade and Kia. All of which have their own successful podcasts. Listening to these makes you feel like you are apart of a huge family.

9. Thanks for Listening
Sports and pop culture commentary
This is a new podcast that I have been listening to for some time now. The three male hosts, Royale, Okla and EJ discuss sports, sports news and pop culture. The three hosts have only been doing this for a short amount of time, but within the past few months, I have been able to see growth and a new format emerge. I listen to quite a few pop culture podcasts but this one offers a really down to earth opinion of the things they discuss. As a woman, I often feel as though I am a fly on the wall listening to barbershop talk. This can be a good and a bad thing, but I do enjoy the candor and laughs provided by these everyday people.

10. Gettin Grown: Help with adulting
Another one of the newer podcasts I listen to and I am so happy a friend recommended it to me. Jade and Kia discuss issues all of us in our 20 somethings are going through. How to navigate the workplace, how to elevate yourself professionally and personally and how to remain true to yourself while doing it. This podcast is fun and very informative. I listen faithfully every week #TeamTypinFast!

11. Combat Jack show: Social Justice & awareness
This show is a great blend of culture, social justice, and social awareness. I love the integration of hip-hop culture, the many shades of the black experience and politics. This show always has great, relevant guests who can teach you about the past, present and future of the world we live in. Another unapologetically black show that you should add to your rotation.

Honorable Mention
These two are great podcasts but I don’t listen to them regularly but for two different reasons. The Brilliant Idiots is a show hosted by the Breakfast Club’s Charlamagne the God and Andrew Shultz. The name of the show is very transparent. Sometimes these men sound like brilliant, insightful guys other times they are just plain idiotic and to be honest, I can’t take it all the time. The other podcast I’d like to mention is Lip service, hosted by the Breakfast club’s Angela Yee and friends. They always have relevant guests and the conversation, mainly about sexual experiences, is always candid but it’s not something I like to listen to on a weekly basis.
Do you listen to any of these? Give me some feedback on the Podcasts in your rotation!
